Actress Dame Maggie Smith, who was 89 years old, passed away.
Her sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens released a statement through their publicist, saying, “We must announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith with deep sadness.”
“She died quietly this morning, Friday, September 27, at the hospital.
An exceedingly modest individual, she passed away surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind two sons and five devoted grandkids who are inconsolable over the passing of their remarkable grandma and mother.

The renowned actress is mainly remembered for her portrayal of Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter films. Tragically, she is now the 26th member of the cast to pass away since the films’ initial release in 2001.
Throughout her career, Smith was also a well-liked name, having gained popularity from her roles in Sister Act and Downton Abbey.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, attributes his famous character to Smith.
For those who are unaware of the story, I basically owe everything to Maggie Smith because I worked with her on David Copperfield and she later came to Potter as McGonagall and told the director, “You need to audition this boy.” He stated this in 2011.

But in a very little cameo, this is one name that fans have seen since long before he became well-known.

Since then, Page has discussed the job, saying on The Tonight Show that he “hugely” appreciated it.
