Diane Salinger, a beautiful woman in her fifties, found herself at a crossroads after losing her husband to COVID and then having a tornado damage her home. After thinking about life for a while, she made the decision to use the money she had left to start a business in a mid-sized Michigan town.
She purchased a little grocery store with the intention of selling unusual goods, and she hoped for the best.
Fortunately, she found a comfortable neighborhood. The locals welcomed her as one of their own and were amiable. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be true about Chris, her landlord, who was a sour man who seemed to be only interested in himself.
The tenant was Diane.
Chris became enraged and demanded that she pay the entire rent when she gave him the envelope and he began calculating the money.
Chris would not listen to Diane’s explanation that she would receive the money in two weeks. She assured him, however, that she was assisting several low-income families and that she would be able to make the whole payment at short notice.
Chris began to rage at her, telling her that he wouldn’t wait a day for her to stop playing Mother Theresa. He was furious with her and requested that she vacate the premises by the end of the week.
He accused her of using him, saying, “I’m a businessman, not a charity.”
Chris was even more enraged because he believed Diane’s business was doing well enough to pay the rent in full because he could see customers leaving her store with bags full of food.
Diane, poor Diane, ended up homeless. She had to find another place to stay after being compelled to leave the house.
Chris had no regrets about throwing her out in the interim.
A few days later, he was preparing to visit his sister, Vanessa. She was raising her son by herself as a single mother. Despite her difficult life, she was a strong, self-reliant woman Chris adored.
For his nephew’s birthday, he put $20 in an envelope and went
A delicious aroma of home-cooked food filled the air as she opened the door. Vanessa looked happy than normal. Dinner was ready, she informed Chris as she ushered him inside. Vanessa responded that he was upstairs playing video games with one of her friends when he inquired about his nephew. Chris’ nephew and a woman came downstairs at that very moment. It was Diane, the person Chris had expelled from his house.
Diane remarked, “I didn’t know you were Vanessa’s brother.”
Chris was taken aback. He became aware that his sister’s family was one of the needy households Diane had mentioned receiving assistance.
“But why doesn’t she ask me for money?” he said to himself. Diane said as she leaned in his direction, “Because it’s always simpler to
Chris was embarrassed. Now that he realized his mistake, he wanted to make amends, so he offered Diane the apartment back at half the rent she was paying, allowing her to continue assisting others like his sister. Most importantly, he pledged to equal Diane’s assistance whenever possible.
Diane accepted the invitation with pleasure. She thought that day would teach Chris a good lesson.
