Jennifer Aniston reportedly feels out of touch with the times as she reflects on “Friends.”
The actress was promoting “Mystery 2,” a new Netflix film in which she costarred with Adam Sandler, when the topic was brought up.
“Comedy has evolved, movies have evolved,” Aniston told AFP in Paris, the film’s setting.
Since comedy is all about making fun of ourselves and life, Aniston stated, “Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians.”
She also discussed how much society has evolved since the 1994 premiere of “Friends.”
“A whole generation of people, kids, are going back to ‘Friends’ episodes and find them offensive,” Aniston said. “There were things that were never intentional, and others—well, we should have thought it through,” the speaker said. “I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is now.”
The show’s lack of diversity has long been a point of contention. Last year, the series’ co-creator, Marta Kauffman, expressed regret.
Kaufman told the Los Angeles Times, “It’s not easy to admit and accept guilt.” It hurts to stare at oneself in the mirror. I regret not having more knowledge twenty-five years ago.
CNN has contacted Aniston’s agents to get more information.
