Turia Pitt, a 27-year-old former model, was consumed in a bush fire while she was running in an ultramarathon in Australia six years ago.
She has serious burns on more than 64 percent of her body.
The doctors said she might not survive.
Following the accident, Turia’s lover, Michael Hoskin, quit his job as a police officer to take care of her. He has consistently stood by her side and supported her. Michael knew he wasn’t doing anything.
Since the disaster, Turia has had 200 operations. She needed more than two years to recuperate after losing seven fingers. In an interview, she described the horrific event of being caught by fire during a 100-kilometer race in a rural area of Western Australia in 2020.
Pitt described having a “bubbling feeling of panic” and recalled seeing pieces of her skin adhered to the rocks and spinifex.
In 2015, Michael proposed to Turia using a diamond ring he had purchased for her during her critical care stay four years earlier. Michael says he proposed to her when they were on vacation in the Maldives.
Michael says, “I purchased a diamond ring four years ago when Turia was in critical care.”
Turia had to wear a mask over her face for the first two years of her recuperation. Slowly but surely, she began to recover. Michael compliments his wife, “You’re beautiful,” every day. The couple exchanged vows in 2016.
Turia says she is grateful to Michael for helping her during the last seven difficult years, most of which she has been in the hospital.
“I had never considered sleeping next to my lover before. I now consider how fortunate I am to sleep close to this stunning man. Turia Pitt told the Daily Mail, “I’m very fortunate to have him; he’s a good guy.”
“It’s a wonderful day every morning when I wake up next to Michael.”
