Seven people, including a toddler, were murdered and dozens were critically injured during a bus disaster on a Mississippi highway over the weekend.
The fatal collision happened on Saturday, Aug. 31, just after 12:30 a.m. on I-20 Westbound near the Bovina exit. A tire blew out on the 2018 Volvo commercial bus, which was transporting 47 people. As a result, the car rolled off the road and onto its side.
One person apparently passed away after being taken to Merit Health Emergency Room, while six others were declared dead at the site. A 16-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were among the deceased.
Over thirty of the passengers were taken to the emergency room at Merit Health.American Medical Response (AMR) and the Vicksburg Fire Department worked together to respond to the collision.
Derrick Stamps, the chief of the Vicksburg Fire Department, confirmed the accident in a statement. He declared, “I am immensely proud of the men and women of the Vicksburg Fire Department.” “For their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment at the wreck site this morning.” We greatly value their dedication to the people of Warren County and Vicksburg.
He then expressed gratitude to the Merit Health Administration for sending more personnel to the Mississippi highway crash site to pick up the bus passengers. “This community’s extraordinary level of dedication and teamwork is incredibly motivating.”
